ACADEMIC SESSION

The academic session of the M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programme is divided into two semesters (odd and even). The odd semester will normally commence from July every year, and the even semester from January every year.

ADMISSION CALENDAR

The admission to the M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programme will be done preferably in the beginning of first (May/June) semester of each Academic Year. The Head of the Centre in consultation with BoS may take the decision in this regard. The Dean – Engineering & Technology shall notify the academic calendar for each semester after due approval of the EC.

DURATION

M.Sc.: The minimum duration for completion of the programme shall be four semesters (Two Years). The duration can be extended to a maximum of six semesters (Three Academic years). The maximum limit can be extended, by 1 or 2 semester, subject to the approval of the University on case to case basis.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

M.Sc.: The eligibility conditions given below are the absolute minimum:

Following category of students will be eligible for admission in M.Sc. Space Science and Astronomy (SSA):

  • Physics Hons.
  • Chemistry Hons. with Physics and Mathematics
  • Mathematics Hons.
  • Geology Hons. with Physics and Mathematics at B.Sc. level
  • Graduation with Computer, Mathematics and Physics
  • Graduation with Geophysics and Mathematics
  • Engineering graduates
  • Graduation in Astronomy and Astrophysics Subjects

For students of General Category marks requirement will be 60% and for Reserved Category it will be 55%.

Seats available for Admission: 10 seats for admission in M.Sc. S.S.A.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  1. Applications will be invited by open advertisement in all leading newspapers and local announcements for all categories of candidates.
  2. The call for application will also be posted on the University website http://akubihar.ac.in. Each applicant will be required to submit the mentioned documents along with the completed application. Incomplete application forms will be rejected.
  3. Out of the applications received, the Centre will short-list the candidates to be called for written test and interview to be conducted at the University on a pre-announced date.
  4. The syllabus for the admission test would be specified, and its standard should be at the B.Sc. level.
  5. The admission test would be of 200 marks consisting of the following subjects:
    • Physics – 100
    • Chemistry – 100
    • Mathematics – 100
    Students can opt any two subjects out of the above three.
  6. Questions to be asked would be of the following types:
    • Objective
    • Descriptive
  7. Selection will be made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the test examination and interview.

FEE DETAILS

Application Fee: Rs. 1,500/- (Fifteen Hundred Only) and Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred only) for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
